Sustainability with substance – certifications in cleaning chemicals

Sustainability is no longer a marginal topic. Anyone offering cleaning chemicals today must deliver more than just good performance. What is required are solutions that work – and that can clearly demonstrate what they stand for.

For us, sustainable cleaning chemicals mean combining responsibility with honesty: through clear criteria, independent testing and recognised certifications – not by making vague green claims.

Sustainability is no longer an add-on, but a prerequisite

For many customers, ecological cleaning chemicals are now standard. Particularly in building cleaning, sustainability criteria are an integral part of tenders. Products with certifications such as the EU Ecolabel or the Nordic Ecolabel are often required. For us, it is clear: a sustainable product range is now part of the basic equipment. It enables our customers to respond confidently to requirements and position themselves effectively in the market.

At the same time, uncertainty is growing. The wide range of labels, certifications and sustainability claims makes it difficult for many to maintain an overview. What is truly meaningful – and what is merely marketing?

We deliberately rely on independent, internationally recognised certifications rather than our own labels. Because credible sustainability is based on externally defined criteria that are regularly reviewed and further developed. This is what creates trust and comparability.

A clear approach to certifications

Wetrok follows a consistent strategy when it comes to cleaning chemicals: we rely on established standards such as the EU Ecolabel and the Nordic Ecolabel. In addition, we use programmes such as ClimatePartner, where CO₂ emissions are systematically recorded, reduction targets defined and concrete measures implemented. Remaining emissions are offset through climate protection projects.

The path to certification is demanding. Ingredients, limit values, environmental impact, packaging and performance – everything is assessed. Only products that meet these requirements receive the label. This is what makes certifications credible: they are not based on self-assessment, but on binding frameworks.

In the Swiss market, the question of IGÖB often arises. The Interest Group for Sustainable Public Procurement maintains a recommendation list for ecological products. Crucially, this list is based, among other things, on existing labels such as the EU Ecolabel or the Nordic Ecolabel. For us, this means that our appropriately certified products already meet the relevant requirements. This message can be communicated clearly and confidently in sales.

Greater clarity through stricter regulations

What distinguishes Wetrok in terms of sustainability is not only its product portfolio, but also its understanding of the topic: to communicate transparently, openly and honestly. We do not promise anything we cannot substantiate.

This trend will continue to intensify. The Green Claims Directive reflects a clear direction: sustainability claims must be verifiable, transparent and comparable. Greenwashing is being consistently restricted.

For us, this is not a new direction, but a confirmation: those who operate responsibly today are well prepared for tomorrow.

Sustainability goes beyond products

At the same time, Wetrok takes a holistic view of sustainability. In addition to cleaning chemicals, machines and consumables, company-wide aspects also play a central role. These include, for example, assessments by EcoVadis, circular approaches such as Cradle to Cradle, and progress in materials, packaging and processes. For us, sustainability is not a one-off initiative, but a continuous process of development.

We are convinced: it takes clear standards, verifiable evidence and an honest mindset. That is what we focus on, day after day. Because ultimately, sustainable cleaning chemicals do not convince through promises – but through proven performance.

Sustainability that makes a difference.

Innovations with responsibility.
