Initial situation

Everyday cleaning operations in hospitals are characterised by different floor coverings, varying degrees of soiling and tight time windows. Many tasks are carried out during ongoing operations.

At the same time, the physical strain on cleaning staff is becoming an increasing challenge. Repetitive manual tasks and the cleaning of heavily soiled areas place considerable demands on employees. As a result, ergonomic aspects are gaining growing importance.

Before the trial deployment, cleaning was carried out mainly manually or with conventional cleaning equipment. The existing processes were established, but in some cases physically demanding.

Objective

The aim was to evaluate a solution that would provide noticeable ergonomic relief for cleaning staff while at the same time ensuring consistently high cleaning quality.

The focus was on determining to what extent a compact scrubber-drier could be meaningfully integrated into existing workflows and deliver added value under real operating conditions.

Practical testing during live operations

The Spin BeFree was tested during regular hospital operations. Following a short familiarisation phase and targeted staff training, suitable areas of application were defined. The trial was deliberately carried out under everyday working conditions in order to assess its true practical suitability.

In heavily furnished or very confined rooms, manual cleaning remained the preferred method. The targeted use of the machine proved to be a key success factor.

Findings

The results show that the added value of compact cleaning equipment depends heavily on the defined area of application and its integration into existing workflows. A structured introduction and clear guidance for employees are essential.

In addition, acceptance within the team played a central role. As routines developed, the machine was used more selectively, which had a positive impact on both efficiency and work quality.

Conclusion

The practical trial demonstrates that compact scrubber-driers can provide clear added value in everyday hospital operations, provided they are used selectively and consistently integrated into existing processes.

Alongside hygiene factors, the ergonomic relief of cleaning staff is a particularly important benefit. At the same time, the required cleaning quality remains consistently at a high level.

Such solutions therefore make an important contribution to more sustainable and healthier long-term working conditions for cleaning staff in the healthcare sector.
